Two years ago I found an old family bible that was taken from my families farm in Lucas county Ohio after my grandmother died. I was the only one in the family who decided to research the bible. It belonged to Isreal Rice My Great Grandfather X3. I think he had this bible with him as a prisoner in Andersonville during the civil war. His wife was Maggie E. Mawhorter who recored her parents - James and Margaret Mawhorter within the pages. The biggest mystery is who are James and Margaret’s parents? I have talked to professional genealogists and they firmly believe he is the son of John (Birth: 1768 in Dauphin, Pennsylvania 1 Death: 1803 in Washington, Pennsylvania)
and Hannah (Early) Mawhorter. See below (from a cousin who reserched the family Utah - familysearch.org and roots web).
Notes: James' parents are unproven. Consideration was given that James was the illusive son of William McWhorter {md Margaret Marshall) and grandson of John McWhorter (md Hannah Early) - but that particular James appears to have been born later than 1801. However, John McWhorter (md Hannah Early) died abt 1803 in Washington, Pennsylvania and James' birth fits nicely in between the births of his other children, which would make James b. 1801 the younger brother of William (md Margaret Marshall.)
Margaret MaWhorter (McWherter) could have been native american. The rumor was that the Mawhorter had dark hair and skin. Her daughters daughter Tena Rice had a very dark complexion (in pictures)and high cheek bones. My fathers hair was jet black as a child.
I want to be sure who James and Margarets parents where. If anyone has any info please e-mail me. I have posted the Bible info below.
P:S- I believe a key piece to this puzzel might lie with John MaWhorter listed below. He is the center of my research at the moment.

Died – 1876 Nobel county Indiana York Township
Married to:
Margaret Mawhorter (Maiden name?)
Born – Washington county Pa May 2nd 1806
Died – June 4th 1880
Children (from the Noble county Census):
Kilbourn – Died Sept 6th 1889
Robert
James
Adeline (Addy McDonald) Born June 10th 1844, died 1882 Nobel county Indiana
Marion
Margaret (Maggie E?)
Hanna
There is also a John Mawhorter that I can barley make out, died March 9th 1879. Could be a brother or cousin.
