Here's a link to a page with one possibility listed, that he was a son of John McWhorter, son of Hugh McWhorter of DE. This is the only connection for which there is any actual circumstantial evidence as of now, at least. If this is correct, he was a nephew of the famous Rev. Alexander McWhorter:

I descend from Alexander's daughter Margaret, who m. first John Richey, second Daniel Easley. She died in Sangamon Co., IL, in the early 1830s and was buried in Easley Cemetery in Ball Township there. She had two sons by her first marriage, Alexander M. and John Richey, and several children by her marriage to Daniel Easley, including James B. Easley, my ancestor.
