In an 1870 Preble County, Ohio Census are Stephen McWhinney 52, Martha McWhinney 51, and Andrew McWhinney 20. Are they related to the family you mention? I am searching for information on a Denny Talbert 16 who was living with them during that year. He was orphaned in 1869, Alexander Rhea becoming his guardian. He may have been just a farm hand at the McWhinney farm.
Any information you may have on him would be greatly appreciated.
