I believe I am a descendant of Moses McWaters. As such, I have been trying to put together all the McWaters that are descended from the five brothers. I believe that they are the grandchildren of the James McWaters b.1720 in County Cork, Ireland that is often referred to on these pages. He apparently had six sons, John, William, Samuel, Alexander, Benjamin and Hugh. We know John is not the father of the boys, and I don't think William is possible. Of the other four we know very little, but it is my belief one is older and the father of our five boys. Moses was born in 1770, and I think James is older than he, so it would have to be one of the older sons. They are all in the south at the right time though. Did you know that Benjamin McWaters wife Elizabeth Wells had, what I believe is a brother named Pearson, who was married to a Jemimah Gustavus in Wilkinson Co.? Don't know if that is your family or not, but it seems likely. I also think your James is the grandfather of Colonel James A. McWaters who was an early civil war hero in Louisiana before being killed in action in 1863.
I have more on these folks. Email me if you would like. I think these are the earliest McWaters' in the South at least if not the US, so I would urge all the posters on this board to help untangle them.
