HI. Do you know where in MD? My great grandpa, CAPT MARTIN MCVOY,b.5-14-1841,
was in MARYLAND in 1861-1865 during the
CIVIL WAR. He fought for the NORTH (1st MD
CAVALRY,CO A,2nd sgt-from BROADFOOT'S ROSTER
OF UNION SOLDIERS.)and his wife was ELIZA
JANE COCHRANE of CALVERT COUNTY MD and her
family records list MARTIN as a CAPTAIN.
ok- MARTIN N.MCVOY was b. in 1841 and
ELIZA JANE was not born until 1861, so there
is a good chance that MARTIN was married before ELIZA JANE. Also,MARTIN was born in
PENSACOLA FL and most family members list him
as the son of WILLIAM (GUILLERMO)MCVOY(MACABOY)JR.,b.1812 and
JOSEPHINE HERNANDEZ. But again, ELIZA JANE'S
family has MARTIN,b.1841 listed as the 'son
of MARTIN.' So I assume they mean MARTIN MCVOY,b.1825 who was WILLIAM MCVOY,JR'S BROTHER. MARTIN MCVOY,b.1825,d.4-22-1841
only but days before my great grandpa, MARTIN
MCVOY,b.5-14-1841 was born! He too may have
been an orphan. He was raised as the son of
WILLIAM,JR. and grew up in their home.
**The AMAZING THING is that the ENTIRE southern MCVOY family fought for the CONFEDERACY--
except apparently MARTIN.
'WHY' DID HE GO TO MD?
There were also some MCVOY's, listed in
BALTIMORE at similar times and a MALINA or
MELINDA listed as being in DC about the same
time. I also was told of a marriage in 1838
between a WM.MACKEBOY and a GROVES at CONGRESS ST.METHODIST CHURCH in DC.
