Hugh McVay, Sr. was born in Scotland in 1690. He married Winnifred Farland in 1710. Their childre were: Daniel born 1709 in Rcihmond County, VA; George born Sept. 16, 1711 in VA; Hugh, Jr. born April 20, 1713 in Va; Thomas born July 5, 1719 in VA; and John born July 20, 1722 in VA
Hugh McVay, Jr. married Ruth Manning. Their children were: Hugh, III born April 18, 1742 in Richmond County, VA; David born January 20, 1744; John born March 25, 1751 in GA; and Eli, born 1763.
Hugh McVay III first married Sarah Street and secondly married Martha Langston. Hugh and Sarah's children were: Hugh, IV born 1766 in Greenville, SC; Sarah, born 1767 in Person County, NC; Martha, born 1769; Kinson, born 1784 andZadock, born 1787 in Greenville, SC. Hugh asnd Martha's children were: Claiborn, Jordon, Pleasant, Langston and Martha born 1785 in Pickens County, SC
Hugh McVay IV first married Poly Hawks, secondly married Mary LaFain and thirdly married Sophia W. Davidson. Hugh served as ex officio governor of Alabama in June, 1837 when Governor Clement C. Clay resigned when elected to the US Senate. Hugh and Poly's children were: Averilla; Susan; Henry; Sarah Parthenian born April 24, 1802 in Florence, AL; Hugh V born 1806 in Madison County, AL; Rebecca born Sept. 9, 1810; Elizabeth born 1813 in Madison County, AL and Atlantic Pacific born 1815 in Madison County, AL.
