I have been confused by the names origin for years.
I have never been able to find how is McTear McIntyre. I hear an additional syllable between the Mc and Intyre. It also rhymes with fire. My name as yours does rhymes with ear. If you know any gaelic can you tell me if there is a long "i" sounding like eye in the language. I pick up the McTire name up earlier than the McIntyre by a few years (the Annuals of Ulster in 1019 v I think the 12th century creation of MacINtyre.)
In N.Ireland I see an goodly number of McIntyres and Mcateer. However there are a significant sampling of McTire etc. I know people all swear that they are the same name but do you know why?
