Starting Sept. 30, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum
message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles
will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will
no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.
Hi Louise. No, I don't recognize your names. My McTavishes left Lochgilphead for Lanark County, Ontario around 1816. Have you looked in the Scottish church records? These are also available on line, for a subscription, but the LDS has a microfilm of Glassary parish, which is where Lochgilphead is--or a part of. That is where I found my family.
The parish of Glassary covered a fairly wide area. Have you looked in familysearch.com, the LDS site? Some of mine are also there. Also, if you are in reach of an LDS family history center, their indexes are available in a different format than on line, and sometimes easier to use if you are not sure about connections. There are many McTavishes in Argyll, and they are certainly the same clan, if not the same family somewhere back in time. There is an Archive of Bute and Argyll in Lochgilphead, which may still have some records, although older ones are in Edinborough. Good luck with your search. Barbara
