The history as it was told to me...and remember, we are dealing with a bunch of shanty Irishmen here...is that One Apias Claudius Tagus, a Roman Centurion was sent to Spain. The Tagus river in Spain is named after him. This was during the Punic Wars.Around the time of the Moorish Wars, our family were merchants and traveled to Eire.Michael McTague our ancestor was the right hand and fellow of Brian Boru..the last real High King of Ireland.Michael was killed when Brian was assasinated. So the story goes..now this is ancient history...soour names evolved.Tague/Tighe etc are derivations of the same meaning..Celtic for Warrior.Again, this is what has been passed down to me.,..and we are dealing with a bunch of yarn spinning Irishmen. The facts of the River in Spain and theAlso, remember the Italian derivation of Montague? ie: Romeo and Juliette.
