I wish I could be of more help Bob but I've pretty well exhausted all my resources. However, I've listed a few places that may be able to help.

Here are some websites that might be able to locate birth records, biographies, an obituary and/or death certificates for your James and Mary Taggert.

Best wishes on your search...Linda

This is one of the lookup volunteers on the Fairfield County, Connecticut website - Judy Prout http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctfairfi/:

This is an excerpt from that website:
"I have just come into possession of a wonderful copy of "History of Fairfield County Connecticut" dated 1881. It has 878 pages of historical information and biographies and illustrations. . . .The book is not for sale, but I will be happy to share its contents via email."

Thank you, Judy!

Another site is Fairfield Co., Connecticut Indexed Cemeteries - http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctfairfi/pages/cemetery/cemetery_index.htm

If you locate the cemetery James and Mary were buried in, it will often times have copies of the death certificates along with other vital information.

Here's a website for ScotsOrigins - http://www.originsnetwork.com/ScotsOrigins/SOUserHome.aspx?AID=5329662&PID=195520

An excerpt from the website:
Scots Origins features a free IGI search, access to "Origins Experts" research of Scottish Old Parish Registers Births, Baptisms, Marriages and Death records and 1861 and 1871 Census Records, a free Scottish Search by Place, and expert articles and discussion on Scottish history

Lastly, since I don't know when your James and Mary immigrated to the U.S., I don't know if this is them or not.

It was listed under James McLeget in Ancestry and under James McCleget in Heritage Quest:

1860 Dutchess, Poughkeepsie, New York
Dwelling 778
James McCleget 48 b. 1812 Scotland gardener/ personal estate valued at $125
Mary McCleget 48 b. Scotland
Thomas McCleget 10 b. Scotland
