I am hopeful that someone out there has knowledge of Christina McRae, born 1853 in Tullibody, Clackmannanshire, Scotland and mother to James T.L. McRae (b.1874). James T.L. McRae may also be known as James Thomas Laidlaw. I have recently come across an 1881 Scottish Census report of a family dwelling in Alloa, Clackmannan, Scotland with the following residents: - Daniel SELLARS M 40 M Dunoon, Argyll, Scotland Rel: Head Occ: Ag Lab Christina SELLARS M 46 F Killin, Perth, Scotland Rel: Wife Occ: Ag Lab Wife Daniel SELLARS U 15 M Killin, Perth, Scotland Rel: Son Occ: Apprentice Draper Catherine SELLARS U 18 F Thornhill, Stirling, Scotland Rel: Dau Occ: Dom Ser James T. L. MC RAE 7 M Tullibody, Clackmannan, Scotland Rel: Grand Son Illegitimate Occ: Scholar Christina MC RAE U 28 F Tullibody, Clackmannan, Scotland Rel: Visitor Occ: Dom Ser Catherine FERGUSON 2 F Tullibody, Clackmannan, Scotland Rel: Dau Illegit (Grandaughter) David CAIRNS 5m M Tullibody, Clackmannan, Scotland Rel: Grand Son Illegit From information provided by living relatives, it is possible that Christina McRae is the daughter of Christina Sellars (nee Sinclair) -- don't know if C. McRae is from a previous marriage or liaison (illegitimate). It is possible that the other two illegitimate children also belong to Christina McRae. I have reason to believe that Christina McRae married Thomas Laidlaw sometime after this census, but have no proof -- other than the marriage and death certificates of James Thomas Laidlaw indicating his parents were Thomas Laidlaw, a farmer, and Christina McRae. Jame's 1900 marriage certificate says both parents are deceased. The 1901 Scottish census shows James Laidlaw of Tullibody married to Maggie Laidlaw (nee Lindfield) and living in Kilsyth. It has taken a long time, but this is a small chink in a brick wall, and I hope it can break down the wall. Notify Administrator about this message?
