Hello,

I saw your posting today. I'm looking at the McRaes because they are related to the McAuley's. Years ago I found in a book (Pattern of Timeless Moments) a write up on James Aulay McAuley. Here's part of the write up. "He was the namesake of his great grandfather who had married Mary Ann McRae who came from her native Scotland and settled in Montgomery County". The book was about the early settlers of Montgomery County, NC. My ancestor Daniel McAuley was born in what became Montgomery Co.,NC in 1775.
By 1805 he was living in what was Wythe County (now Smyth Co) VA. I've noticed that the McAuleys always traveled with their extended family. Later Daniel moved to IN and finally to Wisconsin.
Does any of this sound familiar?
