John McRae born Glasgow 1876 arr US 1907?

I am researching my family tree including John Alexander McRae born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1876. In 1903 he married Agnes Jamieson Goldie, and in 1906 my grandmother Agnes Jamieson McRae was born. John then deserted his wife and child, leaving for the United States alone some time after the end of 1906. We think he probably declared himself single and may have married again bigamously. My gret-grandmother was obliged to apply for a declaration of presumption of death so she could remarry in 1917. Despite the questionable behaviour of this black sheep, I would love to find out where he went and if I have family descended from him. This is a long shot as I suspect he would keep his past secret from any new family!!
Any ideas anyone?
