Thank you so much for taking the time to look for Malcolm in the book and your post. Malcolm and Margaret lived in Wenmore, Scotland in 1835; however, at the time of his marriage to Margaret in 1830, Malcolm was shown as living in "Badral??" (name incomplete - can't read). Malcolm had a brother Alexander that I know of (married to Ann McDonald), and records also point to possible brothers named Duncan, Donald and Finlay, since they all lived on the same lot on Prince Edward Island according to the 1841 census; there may have also been a sister named Mary McRae and a brother named John McRae, married to Catherine McDonald. Malcolm and Margaret had two sons named "John", their first and seventh children, so one would imagine that John could have been the name of one of the grandfathers.
I found records for a Duncan McRae, b. 1801, Applecross, and Donald McRae, b. 1806, Applecross, both showing parents Finlay McRae and Christy McRae, and a Finlay McRae, b 1810, Applecross, with no parents listed. I have a feeling these McRae men may be the same ones listed above, but have no proof. Perhaps Finlay McRae and Christy McRae were the parents of Malcolm McRae, but again, I have been unable to verify.
This feels like looking for a needle in a haystack!
