William Thomas McQuitty and Lucy Wray McQuitty (ne Hazzard) were my grandparents.David Wray McQuitty was my Dad.He was born at Chilhowee, MO in 1916. Other family members called him Wray.Catherine McQuitty McCarthur was his younger sister. Another writer got the rest of the brothers and sisters listed, I believe.William Howard was one of my uncles. He went by Howard - at least in the family.Aunt Hildreth was the family historian. My Dad and Mom, Velda McQuitty (Walker) were killed in a car/truck accident at Bolivar, MO in 1999 while on a trip to visit family members in Clinton. They had lived in San Diego since 1954, with frequent trips back to MO.My brother Michael Wray McQuitty lives in El Cajon, CA.He has two children, David John and Sara.I live in San Angelo, TX.Barbara (Granlund) and I have three grown children Kristin, Karen, and Michael)and seven grandchildren.McQuitty's show up in the Civil War records.George Washington McQuitty - William Thomas's Dad - raised the 3rd Missouri Cav Regiment, CSA - fought at Champions Hill (outside of Vicksburg), was wounded twice, shows up in family records as having died in CA in 1916, although another writer said he died in 1879.I don't know about that.Others were John Todd McQuitty (somehow related to Mary Todd Lincoln). He is shown in a photograph standing next to the bed of the mortally wounded President Lincoln.Started the war as an officer in the 23rd Indiana Inf Regiment, fought at Shiloh - was aide to Gen McClernand at Vicksburg, ended the war as a Lt Col commanding the 1st Alabama Cav Bn - only Alabama unit in the Union Army - during Sherman's march to the sea.Another was Henry C. McQuitty. He was a cavalryman (Union) at Stones River - later was a Major and noted as Gen Sheridan's Provost Marshall in the later eastern campaigns. In the Civil War records McQuitty is spelled McQuiddy.I hope this helps.
