Miner Henry McQuig, Henry (nmi) McQuig, John McQuig used both McQuig and McQuigg intermittantly.

Message no. 149 on Genforum gives the information that Henry McQuigg, born 1832, had two children, Miner H. and Almetta (Almira on Marion Co., OH census 1850, Almeda on 1880 Nebraska census) and that his birth certificate lists John McQuig and Jane Miller as his parents.
Yes, Kathy, they must indeed be related somehow to those McQuig/McQuigg families, but I don’t know yet. This family was from Knockaduff, Aghadowey Parish, Londonderry, IR.

Henry left Lewis County, Wa and went to The Dalles, OR to visit his daughter Rose. I have not found any information on her and don’t know if this is Almira/Almeda McQuig or another daughter that may have been born after 1850 and married before the 1880 Nebraska census report. Henry died in Oregon in 1904, grave and cemetery have not been located.

McQuig, Miner born OH
M. Adelaide Balfour born WI
Ch. Henry McQuig all born Lewis County, WA
Charles McQuig
Nathan McQuig
Frank McQuig
Mabel McQuig

Same family listed below on www.familysearch.org. on 1880 Nebraska census:

Henry McQuig, husband
Elizabeth S. McQuig, Wife
Almeda J. McQuig
Miner H. McQuig

It appears that this family may be the same one that is in Will County, Illinois (Henry) and Kankakee, Kankakee County, Ill (John) in 1870. John’s son Silas, wife Susan, are
on the 1900 Essex/Kankakee census reports.Ancestry.com lists Henry’s birth 1830 and
Elizabeth as 1832 in Will, Ill. -quite a discrepancy.

Family lore states that Henry’s (father of Miner) mother died when he was young and father John remarried. On www.familysearch.org there is a John McQuig who married a Sarah Orr in 1835, but I do not know if this is the correct Sarah.
Our John does have a Sarah on the census (Marion, OH 1850, 1860 and Illinois 1880. This may mean that Jane Miller died between 1832 and 1835 and John married Sarah - young Henry may not have liked his stepmother, but was not able to “run away” until he was a teenager, or it may be this is not the correct wife.
There is a Jane Logan that married a John McQuig in 1826, however that does not explain the Miller maiden name.

This family is also listed on Rootsweb Worldconnect on the Chew and Weterby family pages -just look for Miner McQuigg, born 1861. Wife is Adelaide Balfour McQuigg.
Almeda may have married a James Mulloy, OH., not positive.

I would be thrilled if any researchers could be of help.
