I am trying to ascertain if Peter McQueen was a brother of Donald Martin McQueen Sr.(son of Alexander,
who came over in 1802 w/widowed mom and siblings) or a cousin. Also some info that Clay McQueen married a Francis Mary White who is thought by Clay's family to be a full blood Cherokee. They have not been able to to trace her family but they did have 10 children. Your question about being a native American certainly interests me.
Another researcher reports"a Peter McQueen fought as a Red Stick in the Creek Indian Wars (Fort Mims in particular) against Andrew Jackson. He was obviously from around South Alabama and we have been told but never confirmed that he was kin somewhere up the line." I have no confirmation of this whatsoever.
And away from the McQueens to another question re: native Americans; do you know of any way of checking on teachers in the Indian Schools in early 1800s? We are trying to find proof of another Wicker's researchthat my husband's g-g-grandfather Wicker taught in the schools.
Thank you for any help.
