You could be right in the very neck of the woods where "old John" reared his family, I know they were off the beaten path, but from what I've read, "old John" didn't have much in worldly goods and all he gave record of doing was hunting; I'm not sure that he owned any property but I could be all wrong...I'm trying to think which county would have a record for him purchasing a piece of property because you would have to go back to either when KY was formed in 1792, or just after, and I'm not sure which county would hold a record for a deed. I know he had business taken care of in Estill Co, and besides that, I don't know...I do know he was in Laurel Co on 1850 KY census, and he died 1855 (or there about)...I wish you well in your search.
