I believe this Daniel McQueen is the son of Peter McQueen, who was a miller in the town of Salem, Washington County, New York. The mill he worked in was called Williams Mill, which I believe Peter ran on Fitch's Point. Peter McQueen was married to Cathrine (last name unknown currently. The records of Dr. Asa Fitch indicate Peter's sons John, Alexander and Daniel were accused of stealing from the mill and were indicted. Peter drown himself in the mill pond when he heard the news and the three boys headed west around 1786. The court dropped the charges, in light of Peter's suicide.
I believe two additional brothers named: Archibald and James went West to the town of Perth in Fulton County, New York.
The Peter who drowned was the son of John McQueen Sr.of Argyle, Washington County, New York. John Sr. was also a miller. John Jr. (whom I believe I descend) came down to Salem to help his sister-in-law, Cathrine after Peter's death and is found in the 1790 census of Salem. By 1800, John Jr. his wife Priscilla and their children are still in Salem living near Peter's widow, Catherine, and some of her children.
I have joined the MCQUEEN DNA study at relative genetics.com and would be interested in finding a male direct descendent of your Daniel, who still carries the surname "McQueen" to join our study. If my research is correct a male descendent of Daniel should match my results.
