Weve prob. "talked" before re: Gillespies or something. My memory or record keeping is non existant!
Anyway, as you may know ,some families from county Tyrone Ireland and northwest Ireland in general settled in West Rutland and Dorset to work in the marble quarries and mills. The Pattens McDevitts seem to be from around the parish of Ardstraw. The "McPhelimys" (not the spelling used) were prob from right around there as well. There was another 'McPhelimy" family from Ardstraw that went from Massachusetts to Colorado. I dont know what connection, if any, this bunch had to the Vermont McP's. They have been well researched by a man named Blaine Smith.
I have always suspected from the families that they were married into that the Gillespies were from this area of Tyrone or adjacent East Donegal.
I could get the various McPhelimys in the 1882 Rutland Directory for you and the ones in St.Bridgets Cem in West Rutland as well if you are interested.
Im visitng in New Hampshire for Thaksgiving and using my sister in Law's computer. Also , we brought our computer here to be "fixed" so I dont know exactly when I will be back "on line" in Vermont. Prob. Sunday evening or Monday.
Happy Thanksgiving,Peter Patten
