Laura,
I logged on as my first husband is a McPartlin. He is John Francis McParltin of Edinburgh Scotland. There were a number of McPartlin families in County Leitrim not necessarily related. My ex-'s grandfather travelled from Leitrim to Glasgow and then on to Edinburgh in the early 1900's to open a shop which sold imported Irish bacon and eggs from the farm at Leitrim (and also from a neighbor who supplied the shop in Buccleuch Street, Edinburgh.)My ex's Uncle Frank moved from Edinburgh to New York in 1929 and married and had a family out on Long Island."Frank" was a family name in that branch of the McPartlin's.We once travelled over to Leitrim and saw the original farm of his branch of the McP's (the house and outbuildings were long since demolished and the land used as pasture.)
You may find lots of McP's but you might also need to find out which hill they lived on in Ireland to know whether they are your branch of the family.
Good luck.
