Dear Robert,

My maiden name was also McNish and my father was born in Illinois - Greene County, Illinois. In doing reseach, I soon learned that my family's name was originally McNeese, not McNish. My great great grandfather, William McNeese (b. 1791) and his eight sons changed their names from McNeese to McNish right after the Civil War. They lived in Jefferson County, Tennessee. I am wondering since your mother, Grace, was also in Illinois if your family perhaps also started out as McNeeses. Three of William McNeese/McNish's grandsons moved to Illinois (the Greene County/Macoupin County area). I know one son, Joseph, had a daughter named Margaret. Margaret McNish was born in 1912.
I enjoyed reading about your trip to Scotland.

Annette McNish Mey
