I am researching the parents of Eli McNier/ McNeir/ McNeer/ McNear/ McNair. It appears that the family may have traveled from Maryland> Pennsylvania> Virginia> Ohio. According to member trees on ancestry they have Eli’s parents as John and Sarah McNier. I cannot find any listing for these individuals in an cemetery records. However, I did find a listing for a Sarah McNeer as head of Household in Darby Twp, Union, Ohio, 1840 Census. Her other sons were also listed in the same area. It appears that she is a widow.

The family group is as follows:

John McNear?
Sarah McNier b. abt. 1770-1780
Catherine McNier b. 1803 PA or Maryland
Hulda McNier Brown b. 1813 PA
Amos McNier . b. 1814 PA ……m. Hannah Darby of Preston, Virginia
John McNier b. 1814 PA…M. Eliza and Lydia Hawn of Union , Ohio
Charlotte McNier b. bef. 1820.…..m. John Hawn of Union, Ohio
Eli McNier b. 1821 PA…..m. Clarinda Plummer of Union, Ohio
Sarah Ann McNier b. abt. 1824.……m. Abram Gabriel of Union, Ohio

Other trees have a Margaret and Nancy McNier listed as siblings, but I have not found any evidence of this.

I believe I have found the family in Preston, Virginia, 1830 Census……Head of house is John McNear. Going back father it is extremely confusing with the various spelling. I would appreciate any help in this tangle!

Thank you.
