There were two P D McNeels about the same age. One was the son of John S McNeel and was listed in his H/h, at age 5, in 1850. In 1860, he and three of his younger sibs (Mary, Jane and James) were listed in the h/h of G W and Ann Montgomery in DeWitt County.

The other one was the son of Leander Harrison McNeel and Jane LeMott. He apparently went to live with his uncle, John G, after the separation of his parents. He is listed in John's H/h in 1850 (age6) and 1860 (age 16). He served as a Private in "Co B of the 8th Texas Cavalry Regiment" aka as 'Terry's Texas Rangers', and died of typhoid fever in Tennessee on March 18, 1863.
