Thanks for your reply. Your information puzzles me.
If Walter's parents were Donald Macnee (7 Aug 1720) and Mary McFarlane (14 Jan 1715) and Walter was born 23 Nov 1783 then they were 63 and 68 respectively at his birth!
Could these possibly be his grandparents by any chance - a link to the pre 1754 generation I have been looking for?
Another coincidence is that Walter's older brother George (b 1777/d 1851) farmer at Castle of Rednock also married a Mary McFarlane on 26 May 1835 in Port of Menteith.
My research suggests the father of Walter (your link), George, Robert (my g.g.g grandfather) + 7 others is James Macnee (or McNie, etc.) but their mother Janet is variously listed as McKieson or Maxwell.
