I am a McNay descendant. My gt.gd.mother was Agnes McNay, daughter of John McNay and Elizabeth Rogerson from Scotland. John and Elizabeth McNay arrived in Australia in 1854. They had children -
George McNay, born 1855
John McNay, born 1856
Elizabeth McNay (Agnes) born 1858
Janet mcNay, born 1861, after the death of John McNay, father unknown.
John McNay was a farmhand from Dumfries and was 24 when he arrived in Australia, so born about 1830.
John and Elizabeth McNay settled in Oakbank, Sth. Australia
Their son, George McNay married Mary Rachael Kerr in 1874 and later moved to Victoria where he died in 1923.
James McNay and his wife Jean Johnstone arrived in Australia on the 'David Clark' in 1839.
I have not been able to definitely link my McNay family and that of James McNay, but I am pretty sure they were related.
Perhaps you can help out here?
I have lots of information, all of which you would be welcome to share ...
Nola
