Dear Jim,
I have got back as far as my great great grandfather William McNALL born York, England 1795.I had fully expected for my research to take me to Ireland long before this but not so far.
I have got back as far as my great great grandfather William McNALL born York, England 1795.I had fully expected for my research to take me to Ireland long before this but not so far.Last year I wrote to another McNALL in Narrabri, NSW, Australia who told me that it was understood that the McNALLs in Australia originated from two brothers who came out from Northern Ireland, occupation Butcher. One established McNALL and HODERN the Sydney firm and she believed the other had gone bush. .She was a descendant of the one who went bush. Her grandfather lived around Barringun 100 miles from Bourke. In 1909 they moved to Narrabri and had a dairy on the outskirts of town.1922 they moved to Spring Creek and still have a beef cattle enterprise. This line of McNALLs is dying out because only one of 5 boys married.Since I did not arrive in Australia until 30 years ago and am now 63, I could not be descended from this family. However, because the name of McNALL is so uncommon, though there are more in America than the British Isles (none in Ireland) -must have emigrated!!, I would not be surprised if we do not link up perhaps 200+ years back down the track.I don't yet know who the parents of my great grandfather were or where they came from - probably Ireland at a guess.Keep in touch and I'll pass on any information.I did start corresponding with a lady in Queensland a while back and gave her this information but I have not heard from her in some time.
RegardsBetty Jones.
