The only record that mentions Alexander McMurtry is the guardianship record of his son Samuel McMurtrey which identifies him as orphan of Alexander. We know nothing about the origins of Alexander.

Alexander's son John married Mary Hutton, daughter of Mary Todd and Samuel Hutton, and granddaughter of William Todd.

There is no evidence for or against Alexander's wife Sarah being a Todd other than assertions to that effect which may be conjecture. We don't know the source of the assertion of Sarah being a Todd.

See MacMurtrie Clan Family Records for a discussion of the DNA pattern of John and Samuel McMurtry which differs slightly from the DNA pattern of the McMurtry/McMurtries of northern New Jersey.
