My mother was Evelyn McMurray. I live in Lancaster, SC. Her father was Joseph Grady McMurray, which was the son of Hugh Barber McMurray, son of Stewart McMurray, son of Allen McMurray, which was son of John McMurray, Sr. This may have been grandfather of John McMurray you are referring. This John McMurray was the original settler from Antrim County Ireland. He was b. May 6, 1759 in Antrim County, Ireland, d. June 3, 1842 (tombstone in Shiloh cemetery, Lancaster, SC). He came to Charelston, SC in 1773 and settled in Lancaster County (Unity Community) and was married to Martha Lynn McMurray. They had 10 children. One of their children's name was John, Jr.. John, Jr. b. Nov. 3, 1776 – d. Sept.3, 1813 – married Sarah Harper. Could this be the father to the John McMurray you are referring??? Very possible!

If needed, you can contact me via email at "thomas.starnes@gsa.gov". I check that fairly often.
