I have a Charles McMurray b. May 1860 Utah. My information comes from the 1900 and 1920 census returns for Oakley, Cassia County, ID (haven't been able to find him anywhere in 1910). He is listed with Elizabeth (birth surname unknown but also born May 1860) and several children: Flossie (b Feb 1886), Eugene (b. Sept 1889), Melvina (b. Sept 1893), Rosie (b. April 1895), Mary (b. July 1897), Elva (b. Sept 1899), Hasting (male b. abt 1903) and Goldie (b. abt 1906). Charles's occupation is a sheepherder. In the 1900 census return, Charles is listed as born in UT, his father in OH and his mother in PA. Elizabeth was born in UT, her father in Canada and her mother in Indiana. All the children were born in Utah. The 1900 census return says they had been married 17 years (i.e., about 1883 when both were about age 22)and I assume in Utah as both were born there as were all children listed. The 1900 census return shows Elizabeth as having had 9 children and 6 still alive. Since Hasting and Goldie were born after 1900, they aren't among the 6 still alive in 1900. I'm especially interested in daughter Rosie. I find a Rose McMurray in the 1910 census return for Miller Precinct, Twin Falls Co., ID as age 15 b. Utah with both parents b. Utah and working in a hotel washing dishes. She (and a number of other employees) are living with Samuel Gillman, the hotel manager, and his family. I have been told that Rose married Charles Gee in Idaho before 1914 but have not been able to verify that his wife named Rose was indeed Rose McMurray. Any help would be much appreciated. I suspect, given the time and location, that the Charles McMurray family were Mormon or at least decendants of Mormons. I have documented that the grandfather of Charles Gee was a leader of the church in Utah but believe that his son Augustus (the father of Charles) may not have been. Any help, clues, etc., no matter how inconsequential it may seem, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Notify Administrator about this message?
