Hi Donna:
I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,800,000 surviving rcds for abt 70% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800. Cos. Donegal and Derry were recently added to the database.
Note 1 - Without a KNOWN county, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 30%.
Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database.
Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome).
For Ann(ie) McMullen B 1859 (exact), Co. Down, with the father's forename unknown, I found 5 rcds. Father's forenames were John, John, James, Pat(rick), and Peter.
For Cat(herine) McAvoy B 1869 (exact) ditto, I found 0 rcds.
For Dan(iel) McAvoy B 1865 +/- 4 yrs, Co. Antrim & Down, with the father's forename unknown, I found 0 rcds.
For Marg(aret) McAvoy B 1858 ditto, I found 12 rcds: 4-1855, 2-1856, 1857, 2-1859, 1860, 1861, and 1862. Father's forenames were Bernard, William, James, John, Peter, James, John, Dan(iel), Arthur, ????, John, and James respectively.
For Hugh McMullen B 1856 ditto, I found 20 rcds - too many to summarize here.
For Marg(aret) McAvoy M 1878 +/- 2 yrs, Co. Antrim & Down, I found 7 rcds.
For Hugh McMullen M 1878 ditto, I found 12 rcds.
Will leave it to you to visit the database and see if you can find matching rcds for Hugh and Margaret at the parish level. If so, this is highly likely to be for you ancestors.
Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg.
