Here is the information that was given to me concerning the ancestry of my ancestor John McMullen, Sr. I have that he was the son of Patrick Joseph McMullen and Mary Sinclair and that he was born about 1740 in Dublin, Ireland (some say that he was born in Tralee). His siblings were Andrew, Francis (Frank), Sinclair, Patrick, and Daniel. There is no evidence that any of his brothers came to Virginia with him. They all had jobs in Dublin in the ship building industry.

Some notes on John McMullen, Sr. are that he made sails for ships in Dublin before getting a job on a ship bound to Virginia in 1760. John McMullen served in the Revolutionary War with George Washington at Valley Forge and attained the rank of Lt. He was a tailor and some say that he made the first uniform for George Washington after the Revolutionary War had started.
