Homer & William McMickle Postmasters Rhodes/Burke Texas
The second postmaster for Rhodes (later Burke), Texas in Angelina County was Homer V. McMickle. This appears to be the same Homer McMickle who was born in Forsyth Co., Ga, and lived in Jasper and Scott Cos., Mississippi before moving to Angelina Co. after the Civil War.He was listed in the 1900 and 1910 Angelina Co. censuses. The only connection to Burke is his being postmaster from Sept. 1884 to Apr. 1885.
He was succeeded by William D. McMickle who served for about a year. They are undoubtedly related and are perhaps brothers.
I am researching the history of Burke, Texas, my hometown, and posting the results at www.burketexas.com.I would like to know more about how Homer and William McMickle and how they came to be Rhodes' postmasters.
