marjorie francis(neysa)mcmein, dau of harry harry mcmein & isabelle parker. neysa b.1-25-1889 in quincy, ill.at 17 she attended the chicago art institute she opened a stududio in n.y. in 1911.she did magazine covers for evening post, mcclure,s woman,s home companion, mccall,s & colliers. did work for colgate, lucky stricker & cadillic. drew first of betty crocker. she earned 2500. for each cover girl portrait.she went to france in 1918, drew 14 war posters for u.s. & france.did a sketch of pres. warren hardind, painted pres herbert hoover,anne lindberg & actresses katharine cornell & helen hayes.she died may,12, 1949 b. in rhinebeck, n. y. her last portrait was of english actress, bea lillie. the whitney museum of american art in n.y. established the neysa mcmein purchase awards to be made annually in her memory. among contributors to the fund were bernard baruch, irving berlin,walt disney,ralph pulitzer, richard rogers, mrs theodore roosevelt, mr &mrs harry guggenhim, john hay whitney & helen hays.wayne mcmeins
