David, my name is also David, and I live in Collierville, TN. I originally started this board about two years ago and it was quite busy for a while. However, because so many of us have hit a dead end, it seems to have slowed down considerably lately. My GrGrGrGrandfather was Alfred McMeans married Elizabeth Bowie. Most of us believe that he was a brother to William Carson and that Alfred Jefferson could have been named after him. If the boys did all come from Ireland to SC with Martha, it would certainly explain why we have not been able to identify their father. However, Alfred repeatedly listed TN as his place of birth as did William Carson. Please e-mail me at for some personal reflections.
