Starting Sept. 30, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

The Davie County Heritage book has at least two articles on this family, submitted by descendants who live in NC. One of the articles has information on the name. Another states: "McMahans were among the early settlers and farmers in Davie County. According to family records, James McMahan (1714-1799) moved from Pennsylvania (via Granville Co) to what was then Rowan County." The McMahans lived near and were related to both the Boones and Bryans. I will mail you copies of the articles if you do not have access to this book.
