Anson County DNA Find

I think that I have made a very important genealogy finding, regarding the bloodlines of the McLendons / McClendons of Anson Co., North Carolina. This was possible, because I used DNA data from our McClendon Family Surname Project at Family Tree DNA. My father's line, using traditional genealogy, traces back to Dennis McClendon of Perquimens, North Carolina. I had my dad's Y-Dna tested because I felt that with his well contruced pedigree, Dad's DNA could be a benchmark on which we might be able to base any other McClendon DNA and its relationship to the McClendons Anson Co., North Carolina. What led to my new discovery was a curious lab result at Family Tree DNA, in which a male Thogmartin matched two of the three McClendon males tested on 36 of 37 markers. This result shows that these Thogmartins are certain to have shared a common ancestor with the two McClendons, one of which is my father. I combed the U.S. census, and I found that in the U.S. Census for the year 1800 for Fayetteville, Anson Co., North Carolina, there is a Dennis McLendon, who is listed 12 persons after a Robert Throgmartin. I would call this a "smoking gun." In the Throgmartin household there is a male, age 26-44, a male 10-15, two males under 10. There is one female, age 26-44, 1 female age 10-15, and 3 females under 10. In the Household of Dennis McClendon there is one male age 26-44, 2 males age 10-15, and 1 male under 10. There is one female, age 26-44. The fact that my father's DNA and Mr. Thogmartin's DNA match so very closely points to the fact that my genealogy is correct, and Dad is a descendent of the McLendons / McClendons of Anson Co., North Carolina. If you want to see if your McLendons tie into this line, you can join the McClendon Family Surname Project, and get your Y-DNA tested at Family Tree DNA. I would recommend going together with relatives and springing for the 37 marker kit, which will benefit your entire McLendon line.
