Dear Melinda,
William is right that our surname was locked in time, the problem though is what was it really? As I have searched the Gilmore is a closer match than the other. Though on the Aryshire I was given closer to what William has to the modern terms. If we are Gilmores then we would fall under Clann Morrison as a Sept of that Clann. The modern Clan Morrison claims the Mac Ghille Mhuire as their Gaelic name. If we are Mac Ghille Mhuires then some believe that we predate the Morrisons habitation of Lewis. But at this point all this is conjecture. Good talking with you!
