What I am saying is no one knows for sure where McLemore or Macklemore comes from. It is not a name that is found in modern Scotland nor is there, it seems, a record of the family in the past. The problem lies in the Scot speaking his or her name with a thick Gaelic brough to a English ear. Then the Englishman tries to interpret what he hears when writing it down.
What the professors of Gaelic respond is that the name McLemore or Macklemore is of highland desent. Argylshire would be on the edge of the highlands, the lowlands names, as I understand it, would have tried to anglize the name as they tried to appease their English lords. The moral of the story is it may be that only God knows where we originated. Only when we get to heaven, "will we know all things."
Forgive the ranting of a frustrated geneoligist.
Peace and joy,
Pastor E.
