Bev, I don't have the James McLemore book with me, but best I remember, he said the name derived from Mac Ghille Mhuire, which literally translated is "Son of the Servant of (the Blessed Virgin) Mary" and that it was quite common for Norsemen, upon converting to Christianity, to take a name with some religious significance. He said it was found in the areas of Scotland and Ireland heavily influenced by Norse raiders. Melinda McLemore Strong
