This is part of my wifes family. It is about all we could find on Dr. Joel McLemore but it may help someone else. If you have more information we would appreciate knowing it.
Dr. Joel Mclemore was born in Halifax County NC June 12, 1835. On Oct 1855 he was married in Tenn to Harriet G. McClearen. They had nine children John B, Joel H, James, William B, Albert A, Sterling P, Samuel G and Allie. During the Civil War he served four years in the Confederate army as a Major of a Battalion.
His parents were Joel(born Viginia 1773) and Elizabeth (Pullen) Mclemore(born NC 1803).Joel had a plantation in Halifax County and employed 100 hands. He married twice Pullen being his second wife, by her he had two sons Joel and James H who lived in Wayne County Tenn.
After his death his widow married John Whittaker and moved to Perry County Tenn where she died in APril 1859.
