Hi! I am looking for my Great Great Grandfather's lineage. His name was James Burr McLelland born in South Carolina July 4th, 1812. It is thought that James' Father was born in Scotland (we don't know where) and might be named either Daniel or Andrew (although that is not confirmed). We know nothing more of James' parents than that.
James married Eliza Gibson Head on 4 July, 1833 in Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina. Eliza was born 6 December, 1813 in Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina. In 1840, records indidate they had moved to Winston County, Mississippi.
Together they had 10 children: George D. born about 1833 in SC; Theordore R. born 1836 in MS; Sue born sometime in May between 1838 to 1842 in MS; Robert C. "Bob" born 1840 in MS and Bob was a twin of James H. born 1840 in MS; Franklin Moses (my Great Grandfather) was born 30 Nov 1844, Winston County, MS; Allister G. "Allie" (male) born 1847, (same county and state as Franklin*); Marcia O. born 1848 *; Eliza M. born 1849 *; and Sarah Jane "Sallie" 17 June 1853 in Louisville, Winston County, MS.
James and Eliza moved to Noxubee County, MS sometime before 1860. Franklin Moses was the only one of the family that enlisted in the Confederate war service that we can find record of.
By 1870, we have record of James, Eliza and the youngest 7 children moving to Bryan, in Brazos County, Texas. In 1880, James was listed as the Brazos County Treasurer as his occupation. The majority of this family is buried in the Bryan County Cemetary in Brazos County, Texas.
