Hi there, I am descended from a George THOMPSON, born about 1852 in Ireland, and married (twice) and died in New Zealand. One of George's marriage certificates and his death certificate say that he was born in Dungiven, Ireland, and that his parents were William THOMPSON and Sarah DUNN. The only George THOMPSON I have found born at about the right time in about the right place is the George THOMPSON baptised in Aughlish on 3 Apr 1852. The following are the children of William THOMPSON, baptised in Aughlish: Maria THOMPSON - 29 Nov 1836 Robert THOMPSON - 25 Dec 1838 Margaret THOMPSON - 25 Jul 1841 William THOMPSON - 6 Nov 1843 Eliza Ann THOMPSON - 3 Nov 1845 Lucinda THOMPSON - 12 Mar 1848 George THOMPSON - 3 Apr 1852 Henry James THOMPSON - 27 Jan 1855 Mary THOMPSON, spinster of Aughlish (father William THOMPSON, farmer) married Hamilton McCLELLAND, bachelor of Bovevagh (father Edward McCLELLAND, farmer) in 1854. Family history (or mythology, perhaps?) says that George emigrated to Otago, New Zealand with his parents sometime between 1855 and 1860. The first born of George THOMPSON and his first wife, Mary HUNTER, was a Henry James THOMPSON (1881) - named after George's brother? Their third child, Hannah Hunter THOMPSON (1883), married Charles Allen McCLELLAND (c1874). I wonder if there is some connection between this McCLELLAND family and the McCLELLAND family previously mentioned. In addition I have found that also in Otago were: Ralph Dunn THOMPSON (c1890 IRE - 1946 NZ); Robert Thompson DUNN (c1884 - ?); Christina Thompson MCCLELLAND (c1882 NZ - 1980 NZ); and another Henry James THOMPSON (c1893 - ?). I have not found anymore about these individuals as yet, so do not know if there is any connection. If anyone is able to help me with any of these individuals or families, I would very much appreciate it!! Cheers, Nick Notify Administrator about this message?
