Dear John
Sorry for the delay in replying to your question, but my old computer crashed and it has taken a while to get back on line.
Kathy may already have contacted you.
There is no evidence that the parents of Andrew McLeish were John McLeish and Katherine Young. I am a descendent of both John McLeish and Katherine Young and they did not have a male child called Andrew. The John McLeish you are descended from was the father of Andrew. This John's wife was Euphemia Neilson.
Someone made an assumption in the past that your Mcleish line was from 'my' John McLeish (about 1726-1806)-however the dates were all wrong.
You are descended from David McLeish, born in the Parish of Liff and Benvie on 18 February, 1842. Kathy, I think, is from his brother, Andrew, born in the same parish on 10 June, 1833.
I have a fair amount of data on these lines, all of which I have passed on to Kathy.
If you want me to keep an eye open for any of your Mcleish ancestors, please let me know-I have come across several of Kathy's by chance, when looking for my own.
Hope that these comments help.
Ron
