I am researching my 3x gr grandparents John McLean born 1801 England died June 4, 1885 Big Island, Sophiasburgh, Prince Edward County, Ontario. Parents? He met and married 1831 in Camden, Ontario Mary Ann Shaw b 1811 Big Island, Sophiasburgh, Prince Edward County, Ontario. She died after 1885 Sophiasburgh, Ontario. They are both burried in the Parliament Family Plot on Big Island, Sophiasburgh, Ontario. Mary Ann Shaw's parents were: Samuel Shaw b 1772 Adolphustown, Ontario and Abigail Parliament b 1784 Orange County, New York, United States.

John McLean and Mary Ann Shaw had 3 children. I found them listed in the 1861 census of Sophiasburgh, Ontario by themselves as follows:
Under McLein
Margaret b Can W Ch of Engl age 14
John b Can W Ch of Engl age 12
Samuel b Can W Ch of Engl age 9.

The 1871 census I can't seem to find them.

1881 census of Hallowell, Prince Edward County, Ontario I find the following:

John McLean age 80 born England, Church of England, English Origins, Farm Labourer, married.
Mary McLean age 70 born Ontario, Presbyterian, Scottish Origins, married.

Their daughter Margaret Annie McLean born December 29, 1847 in Percy Township, Ontario. She married April 26, 1868 in Sophiasburgh, Ontario, to Richard James Bishop b December 7, 1836 Sophiasburgh, Ontario.

Prince Edward County - Townships of Sophiasburgh and Hallowell are of interest along with Big Island.
Marriages and Births taking place in Camden and Percy townships are of interest.

Does anyone know anything about this family of McLean's (McLein, McLain, McLane?
Can anyone help shed some light of John McLean where in England was he born? When did he immigrate to Canada? What were his parents names? Did he have and siblings?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Gail
