The surname McInargnick is not a mis-spelling. It is one of the many Gaelic names which were "anglicised" when Kintyre and other areas became more English-speaking. The name was known on the island of Arran, near to Kintyre, and in Black's Surnames of Scotland it is explained that the name means something like "son of the silversmith". This was shorted to Silver, and later to Sillars/Sillar/Siller/Sillers, a name well known in Kintyre to this day. You will find your family of Hector McLean and Margaret McInargnick/Sillers having several children in Killean & Kilkenzie. Good luck with your research, Best regards Sarah Notify Administrator about this message?
