McLay from Maculay
Posted by: John Reed McLay Date: February 11, 2002 at 14:44:08

I belive I have identified my connection with the Maculay's of The Isle of Lewis, Scotland.

John Martyn McLay and Donald Martyn arrived at Quebec 4th August 1851 aboard one of two ships ‘Mary Blanche’ and ‘Princess Alice’.

I have information that: Donald Martyn, Born at Begingarray on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis, Rosshire, Scotland, 28th Nay 1814 and was baptized at the parish church of Barvas, 20th July 1814.

In 1852, Lewis settlers, numbering 109, settled in the Huron township of Ontario, now Ripley ON.

JKM's son John Colin McLay married Emma Martyn, daughter of Donald Martyn, and moved to Cupar SK. My Father John Martyn McLay was born there.

The Clan Maculay is identified as occupying the west coastal area of the Isle of Lewis.

I belive my name to be a contraction of MacuLay.
