The McLaurin's are difficult because every male child in every generation named their sons Duncan, Archibald and/or John. Our problem is we are both claiming John McLaurin, son of Archibald McLerran and Mary Murphy. I have him in born 31 Oct 1804 N.C., d 17 Aug 1874 near Leaky, Texas. Found in Cumberland Co., NC in 1850: Fannin Co., Tex in 1860; and Leaky after 1871. This comes from Banks McLaurin's research. I found a copy of a letter from my Mother to Banks saying a notebook (I think it belonged to John's son John Robert Melvin) that my Father has agrees with his research. I will check out the notebook. I know it has names of slaves and some dates of marriages, births and deaths. Archibald's will leaves land on the north side of the swamp "That is the south side divided between him and brother Thomas, the dividing to commence at a pine well known where litte John Melvin was thrown from his horse". Email with what you have and maybe we can sort it out.
