Mclaurin - Locklear Stewartsville, NC

I am trying to trace the history of my wife's father's family. I have gotten back to his grandfather, John F Locklear, who is buried in the cemetery on 401 about a mile south of Laurinburg. The are all part of the "Union Grove" clan of Locklears. According to local word of mouth, John F Locklear (b about 1857) was the illegitimate child of a John F McLaurin and a Locklear woman, possibly named Namncy or Elizabeth, who worked as a farm hand for John McLaurin. I have found census records (1870) for a Nancy Locklear who is head of household and has a 13 year old child John Locklear in the household. They are listed as living in Burnt Swamp in Roberson County. I would appreciate any information.
