Hi Barbara,
My wife is a McLaurin by birth. Her father and g-father both had the name Peter Gilmour McLaurin. Her ggfather was John Archibald McLaurin. John was born in Templeton, Quebec and married an Isabella (or Bella) Scullion. I traced my own family lineage by am finding the McLaurin family harder to figure out. I am desperately seeking any links to her ancestors. John's father was Archibald Stewart McLaurin, and his father was John Archy McLaurin, and his father being Archibald McLaurin, whose father was John McLaurin. Have you ever came across these names in the book you found in Florida?
I don't have any dates but if this lineage looks like something you came across in your research, please let me know.
Thanks,
Pat
